Former access student about to embark on adult nursing degree

Former Derby College access to nursing student Christopher Cooke is looking forward to starting a degree in adult nursing this September.

Christopher, who is 32 and from Nottingham, has a place on the full-time degree course at Nottingham Trent University.

His degree will focus on general nursing training but once qualified Christopher would quite like to specialise in HIV and sexual health.

He has previously volunteered with the Terrence Higgins Trust and it is an area of healthcare which particularly interests him.

Christopher chose Derby College because he liked its access course best and was impressed with the engaging course content and high standard of teaching.

He also received an advanced learner loan to help with the cost of his studies. Commenting on his choice of career Christopher said: “Nursing matches my skills set and the values I take from it.”

Completing the access course has enabled me to pursue my new career and I'd highly recommend Derby College to others interested in going into nursing.
