DCG business admin apprentice Chloe is big asset to national eventing company BEDE Events

Derbyshire-based equestrian sport events company BEDE Events Limited took on its first apprentice via Derby College Group in October 2019.

The eventing organiser wanted help with office support, but has found that its DCG business administration apprentice, Chloe Newton, has brought so much more to the small family-owned company.

Anna Buntine, BEDE events director said: “Chloe looks after our business admin but she also works more broadly in any area of the company as and when required.

“She is an essential member of Team BEDE who keeps the office running smoothly.

“Chloe compiles all the paperwork and important documents for the events, alongside organising the extracurricular activities which go on at the larger BEDE events.

“It is always easier to train someone to do things in a certain manner and with  attention to detail etc. from the start, rather than trying to change old habits. Chloe has been a great asset and is always willing to learn.”

When deciding to take on an apprentice, Anna outlined her business’s needs to DCG and worked with the college to find the most suitable course.

She added: “Elaine, our initial assessor at DCG, was very helpful in selecting the modules that were most appropriate.

“I would definitely recommend apprenticeships to other organisations.

“They are cost effective and they allow you to train your staff to think as you do. Our apprenticeship has also worked well for Chloe.

“Since joining us she’s developed her skill set and grown hugely in confidence and ability.”

BEDE Events is one of the UK’s biggest eventing organisers, staging national and international horse trials throughout the year.

Its work involves liaising with competitors, officials, sponsors, volunteers  and traders to ensure every aspect of the event runs smoothly.

Chloe, Anna and the team are currently preparing for a number of big events including the Oasby Horse Trials in Lincolnshire in March, the Eventing Spring Carnival at Thoresby Park near Newark in April and the Firle Place Country Show and Horse Trials in Sussex in May.

Also featuring on BEDE’s busy calendar of events during 2022 are the Tower Equine Eventer Trials at Shelford Manor, Aske Trials at Aske Hall in  North Yorkshire, Shelford Trials near Nottingham, Osberton Horse Trials near Retford and Bennington Carriages Driving Trials as well as pony club show jumping.
