DCG plastering beginners course is ideal introduction for DIY fan Andy

Recently retired police officer Andy Walker has always enjoyed DIY so has been using some of his new free time to learn how to plaster.

He enrolled on the five-week plastering evening course for beginners at Derby College Group after it was recommended to him by a neighbour.

Andy said: “I’d watched plastering tutorials on YouTube. They were good, but they only took me so far so I decided to enrol on the course. The course content covered everything I wanted as an introduction to plastering.

“The venue and facilities at Derby College were ideal and our teacher, Scott, was extremely skilled and knowledgeable. He clearly had a background in plastering.”

Andy added that although being able to skim a wall doesn’t make him a plasterer, he now feels sufficiently competent to take on plastering jobs for friends and family.

He said: “Plastering is hard work. It uses muscles I never knew I had! It’s a massively skilful job but it does become easier once you’ve got the right technique.

The DCG course represents excellent value and is well structured and planned, affording plenty of time to practise.

“Scott provided real-world examples and insight into a variety of plastering techniques. He was also happy to discuss student projects, point out issues and pass on his invaluable advice.

“If I were planning to go into plastering as a change of career, I’d definitely return to Derby College to build my skills.”
