Derby College Group hosts Inclusion Showcase 2026 to champion inclusive futures

Derby College Group recently welcomed students, families, employers, charities and support services to the Broomfield Hall campus for Inclusion Showcase 2026: Celebrating Diversity, Empowering Voices.

The event brought together the SEND community for a day dedicated to inclusion, accessibility, representation and belonging.

More than 300 attendees joined the event, with over 25 organisations hosting stalls and activities, creating a vibrant, supportive environment full of advice, opportunities and meaningful connections.

Championing inclusive employment through the Reverse Jobs Fair

A key highlight of the day was the Reverse Jobs Fair, where Supported Internship students took the lead—introducing themselves to employers, showcasing their skills and demonstrating their readiness for paid work.

This inclusive recruitment format placed students at the centre, enabling employers to see first-hand the value, talent and potential they offer.

Inspiring voices and lived experience

The event was opened by Emma Barker, Miss Derbyshire finalist and PhD researcher specialising in autism and post-diagnostic support.

Emma said:

“Inclusion is not just about access, it is about feeling understood and valued. When we create spaces where people can be themselves and be recognised for their strengths, we open the door to real opportunity.”

Her message reflected the core aim of the Showcase: celebrating lived experience and promoting environments where everyone feels valued and able to belong.

Creating real opportunities for young people with SEND

Amy Bacon, Supported Internship and Work Experience Lead at Derby College Group, said:

“Our students are talented, motivated and ready to work, they simply need the opportunity. The Reverse Jobs Fair allows employers to see that potential directly, while giving students the confidence to present themselves and their abilities.”

Alex, a Supported Internship Learning Support Assistant, added:

“This has really helped me build my confidence. Speaking to employers directly made me realise what I am capable of and what I can achieve.”

Employers committed to inclusion

Organisations from across the region shared insights into accessible career pathways and inclusive workplace practices.

Simone Simpson, Resourcing Business Partner at Network Rail, said:

“The showcase was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and highlight the incredible work happening across our community to support young people with SEND, and to share an insight into life at Network Rail.

“We loved talking about our career opportunities and the wide range of roles available across the organisation.”

“We want people with all different skills and backgrounds to feel they have a place with us. It is important that we create a safe and supportive environment where everyone can be themselves and succeed.”
