Derby College Group signs ‘No Place for Hate’ pledge to champion inclusion across the city

Derby College Group (DCG) is proud to announce that it has formally signed the “No Place for Hate in Derby” pledge, reinforcing its commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for all students, staff and the wider community.

The “No Place for Hate in Derby” campaign, led by Derby City Council and partner organisations, is a citywide initiative designed to tackle hate crime and discrimination in all its forms.

The campaign brings together organisations across Derby to stand united in promoting dignity, fairness and respect, and to ensure that hate has no place in the city.

More than 100 organisations across Derby, including schools, charities and businesses, have now signed the pledge, demonstrating a strong and united commitment across the city to tackle hate and promote inclusion.

By signing the pledge, Derby College Group has committed to a series of meaningful actions, including promoting equality and inclusion, actively challenging discrimination, and ensuring that policies and practices effectively address hate, bullying and harassment.

The pledge also includes raising awareness, supporting victims, and encouraging reporting of hate incidents, helping to build safer and more welcoming communities across Derby.

The campaign messaging is clear and powerful: “Only dignity, fairness and respect is welcome here.” a statement that aligns closely with the College’s own values and its focus on supporting students from all backgrounds to thrive.

Aaron Denton, Vice Principal at Derby College Group, said:

“We are incredibly proud to support the No Place for Hate in Derby campaign.

“As a college that serves a diverse community, we have a responsibility to ensure that every student and member of staff feels safe, respected and valued.

“Signing this pledge is not just a statement, it is a commitment to action.

“We will continue to challenge discrimination, promote inclusion and work in partnership with others across the city to create an environment where everyone can succeed without fear of prejudice or harm.”

The pledge also strengthens Derby College Group’s ongoing work in equality, diversity and inclusion, complementing its wider student experience strategy and pastoral support services.

Through education, awareness and collaboration, the College aims to empower students to become active citizens who contribute positively to their communities.

By joining this important citywide movement, Derby College Group is playing a key role in helping to create a Derby where everyone feels they belong and where respect is at the heart of everything.
