Derby College Group is victorious in back-to-back golf team championships

Derby College Group is delighted that its students have once again emerged victorious at the Association of Colleges (AOC) ICT National Team Championships.

The team, consisting of students, Presley Allott, Sam Jacklin, Adam Wood, and Matt Edwards, secured their win by an impressive 8 strokes over 54 holes at the tournament held at Kedleston Park Golf Club, Derby.

The tournament format, which counted the best three scores each day from the team of four, showcased the students’ consistent and outstanding performance.

This victory marks the second consecutive year that Derby College has claimed the championship title.

All four students are currently enrolled in a BTEC in Sports Coaching at Derby College and are part of the EMGA Performance Coaching Programme.

This elite training programme is led by PGA Professional James Whatley, the head Professional at Morley Hayes Golf Club.

Under his expert guidance, the team has honed their skills and developed a winning strategy.

“We are incredibly proud of Presley, Sam, Adam, and Matt,” said James Whatley.

“Their dedication and hard work have truly paid off, and this victory is a testament to their talent and commitment. It’s an honour to coach such a promising group of young athletes.”

Kevin Bunting, DCG’s Curriculum Manager (Sport & Public and Security Services) commented:  “The team has worked incredibly hard and importantly have been diligent with their classroom studies.

“Their commitment has paid off with them being winners for the second time. And thank you to James Whatley for all his coaching and dedication. Well done!”

The team’s achievement not only highlights their individual abilities but also underscores the strength of Derby College’s sports coaching programme and its commitment to fostering excellence in student-athletes.
