DCG News Derby College Group is playing a significant part in National Apprenticeship Week

Derby College Group is playing a significant part in National Apprenticeship Week

Derby College Group (DCG) is delighted to be significantly involved in National Apprenticeship Week.

The week which runs from the 5th to the 11th of February 2023 is dedicated to the celebration of apprenticeships and supporting the apprentices.

It recognises the amazing and positive impact they have on local employers and the local economy.

At DCG, a packed week is planned for the students and potential students, with a full programme of activities including, a market stall style event, a series of presentations and an exciting showcase.

In addition, there will also be a significant Roundhouse Open Evening on Thursday the 8th of February, from 5pm to 7pm, which being supported by employers will be on hand to provide valuable advice and guidance.

At the event, there will be many employers including, Derby City Council, Derby Homes, Expleo, Greenhatch, Intertek NDT, Loram, Rolls Royce plc, University Hospitals Derby & Burton NHS Foundation Trust and Vaillant.

There will be an opportunity to have a look around the site, meet staff and speak to the employers.

Attendees can find out more about the exciting apprenticeships and full-time courses DCG has available including Hospitality and Catering, Land-Based, Automotive Technologies, Beauty, Business, Leadership and Management (including T Levels), Brickwork, Childcare, Engineering (including T Levels), Inclusion Curriculum (for students with Learning Difficulties/Disabilities), Professional Construction (including T Levels) and Travel & Tourism (including Cabin Crew).

Carol Dixon, Director of Partnerships at Derby College Group commented: “We are one of the largest colleges in the country and work with circa 2000 employers of all sizes and industries.

“We are committed to helping employers invest in a more professional, skilled and sustainable workforce.

“National Apprenticeship Week presents a wonderful chance for us to exhibit our capabilities and show how we collaborate with outstanding employers to assist students in pursuing their career goals.

“Apprenticeships help students open doors to many amazing opportunities. Every day, the apprentices are fully engaged in their work and surrounded by possibilities for growth and learning.

“And it is really rewarding to watch our apprentices grow in their abilities, acquire valuable real-world experience, and profit from expert guidance from employers who have a wealth of industry knowledge.”

Thousands of our Derby College Groups apprentices go on to excel in their careers including former Derby College Level 3 Civil Engineering Technician Apprentice Ben Wilcox, who recently celebrated winning a coveted national apprentice award.

Ben, from Nottingham, scooped Apprentice of the Year at the ACE’s Consultancy and Engineering Awards, who was nominated by his employer BWB Consulting, a multi-award-winning engineering and environmental design consultancy.

While studying at Derby College Group, Ben won his cohort’s Student of the Year Award.

His latest accolade is for his commitment at BWB Consulting where he is two-and-a-half years into his Civil Engineering Technician Apprenticeship.

On winning the award Ben said: “I’m absolutely over the moon, it was a complete surprise.

“I’ve always wanted to take the apprenticeship route; I’m a hands-on person and I like to learn on the job.

“It’s an honour that BWB Consulting has recognised my work and nominated me, especially as the company is known for technical excellence and exceptional client services.”

Register for The Roundhouse Open Evening to find out more about our exciting apprenticeship opportunities.
