Engagement
Sustainability engagement brings our commitment to the environment to life across DCG. Through events, activities and collaboration, we empower students and staff to play an active role in creating a more sustainable future.
Go Green Week
Each March, DCG partners with the University of Derby to deliver our simultaneous Go Green Weeks, our headline celebration of sustainability in the academic calendar. The week showcases a wide range of activities designed to engage and inspire both students and staff. Previous Go Green Weeks have included sustainability workshops, litter‑picking events, including participation in the Big Derby Clean Up, which featured on local news, green careers talks, staff competitions, and tutorial challenges.
New for 2026, DCG and the University of Derby collaboratively hosted a Go Green Fair at the University’s new Cavendish Building. The event brought together students from both institutions and featured over 20 local green organisations, alongside keynote speaker sessions aimed at inspiring and informing students about sustainability and environmental careers.
Green Careers Week
Each November, DCG takes part in the National Green Careers Week campaign, celebrating the range of green careers and the positive impact they have on society and the environment. Throughout the week, we invite external speakers into the college to talk to students about their routes into green careers and why these roles can be meaningful and fulfilling. We also highlight that sustainability is relevant to all jobs, across all industries, as every sector will be affected by climate change and wider environmental issues.
