Energy
Reducing our energy use is a priority in our journey to net zero and forms an important part of our scope 1 and 2 emissions. At DCG, we have 1065 solar panels as well as various renewable energy technology powering our estate.
Broomfield Hall Decarbonisation Project
In 2022, DCG was awarded £3 million from the Salix Fund to change our energy source from a coal-fired heating system to three Air Source Heat Pumps and six Water Source Heat Pumps. The project also included roof insulation, pipe insulation and LED installation. The buildings served have seen a significant reduction in carbon emissions since completion.
East Midlands Institute of Technology
In 2025, the East Midlands Institute of Technology (EMIoT) opened at Derby College Group, strengthening regional provision for advanced technical and green skills. Delivered in partnership with the University of Derby, Loughborough College, and Loughborough University, the Institute provides industry-led training in low-carbon, digital, engineering, construction and leadership disciplines.
LED Lighting
We are carrying out ongoing works across the site to replace fluorescent lighting with energy-efficient LED lighting. LEDs use significantly less electricity, have a longer lifespan, and reduce maintenance costs. Presence-detection lighting is also being installed to reduce unnecessary energy use.
