T Level in Digital Support Services, Infrastructure and Cyber Security

Are you interested in starting a career in digital support services? Wanting to gain the essential knowledge and skills to work in digital roles by understanding data and digital systems, how software and business interact, security, testing, planning and legal issues? T Levels can offer you an attractive alternative to A-levels and apprenticeships.

T Levels have been designed with employers to give you the skills that industry needs. The Digital T Level provides a mixture of technical knowledge and skills specific to the digital industry, an industry placement of at least 45 days and the relevant maths, English and digital skills you will need to succeed.

You need five GCSEs to include English and Maths at a grade 4 or above.

Optionally, you should have also gained a GCSE in Computer Science or ICT course.

The content is split into a core component that is common to all Digital T Levels, and occupational specialism content that is specific to this T Level in Digital Cyber Security and Support.  The core component will be assessed through a project set by employers in the industry and two externally-set tests. The core component provides a broad understanding of the digital industry and covers the following digital-related topics:

Year 1 Core component 

You will learn about the following topics:

 ● Problem solving 

● Introduction to digital support

 ● Data 

● Legislation and regulatory requirements 

● Business context

● Emerging issues 

● Digital environments 

● Cyber Security – (threats such as hackers and mitigation strategies, risk assessment etc)

Year 2 – Occupational specialism ( Digital Infrastructure, Digital Support or Cyber Security)

The occupational specialism content will allow you to develop the relevant skills in preparation for your career in the digital industry. Each occupational specialism is assessed through a project that is created in conjunction with relevant employers.

Within Digital Cyber Security and Support there are four Occupational Specialisms to choose from and these are:

Digital Infrastructure: 

In this Occupational Specialism you will gain the skills to support and maintain the physical and virtual infrastructure of an organisation, this will include the following performance outcomes:

 • Apply procedures and controls to maintain the digital security of an organisation and its data 

• Explain, install, configure, test and manage both physical and virtual infrastructure 

• Discover, evaluate and apply reliable sources of knowledge

Digital Support 

In this Occupational Specialism you will learn the tools and techniques used to support digital software and applications, this will include the following performance outcomes: 

• Apply procedures and controls to maintain the digital security of an organisation and its data 

• Install, configure and support software applications and operating systems 

• Discover, evaluate and apply reliable sources of knowledge

Cyber Security

In this performance outcome you will learn how to keep organisations secure and maintain their security, this will include the following performance outcomes: 

• Apply procedures and controls to maintain the digital security of an organisation and its data 

• Propose remediation advice for a security risk assessment 

• Discover, evaluate and apply reliable sources of knowledge

This course will be delivered on-site. You will learning theory based content and practical related activities to the content taught. You will attend employer led workshops, webinars and industry placements in both year 1 and year 2.

T-Levels have a significant period of Work Placement alongside your study. You must be prepared to complete 315 hours of industry placement. It is beneficial if you have a contact in industry or can source your own placement.

All resources required for teaching and learning are provided for this course.

The core knowledge and understanding will be assessed through an examination and core skills through a practical employer-set project.

In addition to this, maths, English and general digital skills will be integrated within the qualification in occupationally relevant contexts.

Achieving this qualification will give you an advantage when applying for a job in digital infrastructure, network cabling and digital support or when progressing to further study such as a degree at a university of your choice.  We have a Foundation Degree course which will help you to achieve your first year (Level 4) and second year (Level 5) modules for a final third year at the University of Derby or any university of your choice to achieve your final degree qualification.
