Who is this course for?
Our aim is to give students with learning difficulties/disabilities the skills and confidence to be successful in paid /voluntary work. This course is aimed at learners who have inclusion needs. It focuses on developing work skills and meeting the needs and ambitions of each individual learner. You will continue to study English and maths, will take part in a tutorial and enrichment activities, and will gain skills for employment.
Entry Requirements
To have a learning disability/difficulty and aged between 16 and 24. It is expected that learners will want to continue studying and developing their skills in English and maths, while taking a pathway towards employment.
Places are allocated on an individual basis, following an interview and initial assessment.
What will you learn?
Within this three-day (full-time) pathway, learners will focus on Functional English and Maths skills, Preparation for Adulthood and work skills, and will start to gain work skills experience. The course is flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of each learner. This can be discussed at interview.
How will you learn?
Learners will be set targets, which will be reviewed every half term. If appropriate, learners will sit a Functional English and Maths exam. Learners will have the opportunity to do a work experience.
Your learning support needs will be assessed and reviewed throughout the year.
What will you need to bring with you?
Money for lunch or a packed lunch.
How will you be assessed?
For any maths and English qualifications a controlled assessment towards the end of the year. Targets will be reviewed using the RARPA framework of assessment
Where next?
If learners have an EHCP they maybe able to move onto the Supported Internship pathway. Voluntary or paid work. Other vocational courses at Derby College.
