Course Information for Students

Who is this course for?

This programme provides you with the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills for the plumbing trade.  Featuring in-depth theory and specialist practical learning, it is designed for learners who are independent, committed and wish to advance in the industry.

While the course is for those who want to work as plumbers in the building services engineering sector, it should be noted that it does not make them fully qualified plumbers or plumbing and heating engineers.

As well as practical know-how, learners develop their skills in maths and English, which will support their main programme of study, help their future progression and enhance their life skills.

Entry Requirements

All learners will undertake an interview and a pre-assessment test in order to gain entry to this course.  You will also need to hold a Level 2 qualification in Plumbing and GCSE English and Maths at grade C (4) or above.

What will you learn?

The qualification will help you gain an understanding of the skills required within the plumbing sector. You will cover compulsory aspects such as:

  • working safely and effectively
  • principles of environmental technology systems
  • cold water system planning and design
  • hot water system planning and design
  • domestic central heating systems planning and design

How will you learn?

This course will be delivered on-site.

What will you need to bring with you?

Students will be required to purchase three polo shirts, a pair of boots and trouser overalls. They are also advised to purchase a course book for revision. It is recommended that learners purchase some tools to assist them in completing the practical elements of the course.

How will you be assessed?

Assessment for theory exams is via online multi choice papers.

Practical tasks are completed in the centre and assessed via a portfolio of tasks.

Where next?

You could progress towards employment as a plumber and complete an NVQ.
