Who is this course for?
The course is aimed at school leavers who are ready to learn the foundation knowledge and skills required to work within the agricultural industry.
Entry Requirements
- Three GCSEs at a grade 3 or above, including English and Maths
You will need to be highly motivated and demonstrate a keen interest in agriculture, and should be ready to work outdoors and within an agriculture environment.
You will have an interview. Parents and carers are welcome to attend the interview.
What will you learn?
This course will include:
- Tutorial
- Work Experience – 150 hours total
- Environmental and Land Based Business
- Introduction to Farm Animal Production
- Introduction to Land Based Machinery
- Assist with Agricultural Habitat Management
- Participate in Providing Estate Maintenance
You will also work towards GCSEs in English and Maths (if you do not have these at grade C/4 or above). This is a mandatory part of the programme.
How will you learn?
This course will be delivered on-site at Broomfield Hall and is a practical, hands-on programme.
What will you need to bring with you?
You will be required to supply your own:
• Steel toe-capped boots or wellingtons
• Derby College Group overalls (these will be available to purchase at enrolment)
• Derby College Group uniform
• Outdoor clothing such as waterproofs
• Gloves
• Writing materials such as notebooks, folders and pens
Hoodies are not permitted on the College farm.
How will you be assessed?
You will be assessed via practical assessments, witness statements, workbooks and written assignments.
You will also take English and Maths examinations, if applicable.

Successful completion of this programme may lead to:
- A Level 3 qualification in Agriculture
- An apprenticeship in Agriculture
- Advancement of your career in the agricultural industry in roles such as general farm worker or technician.
