Course Information for Students

This course covers the safe driving of a tractor, pre-use maintenance and safety checks, and recognition of controls and instruments.

The minimum age for candidates taking this course is 16 years.

The course will cover:

  • Identifying any hazard specific to the site, task and machine
  • Identifying and explaining functions of all instruments and controls on the machine
  • Carrying out daily pre-use checks on the tractor
  • Demonstrating knowledge of precautions to be observed when driving with heavily loaded trailers and implements
  • Mounting vehicle, carrying out safety checks and starting engine

This course will be delivered on-site at Broomfield Hall.

You will be required to supply your own:

  • Overalls
  • Steel toe-capped boots
  • Writing materials
  • Lunch (there will be facilities on-site if you wish to purchase your lunch here)

There is a formal NPTC assessment which can be taken at the College using our tractors – or your own site using your own tractor – and this will take approximately two to three hours.
