Course Information for Students

This course is ideal for beginners aspiring to start a career in beauty therapy. It suits school leavers, adult learners, and anyone looking to develop fundamental skills in beauty.

A minimum grade 4 in either Maths or English (or the equivalent) is required. A positive attitude, commitment to practical learning, and interest in beauty therapy are essential. No prior industry experience is needed.

You will develop the essential practical and theoretical skills.

This includes:

  • Facial skincare techniques
  • Lash and brow shaping and tinting
  • Manicure and pedicure services
  • Client consultation and communication
  • Health, safety and hygiene
  • Anatomy and physiology relevant to beauty treatments
  • Professional standards and working in the beauty industry

Learning takes place through a blend of practical, hands‑on training in our fully equipped salons and interactive theory sessions in the classroom. You’ll work on real clients, complete practice assessments, and develop your skills through demonstrations, group activities and independent study. Your progress is supported through ongoing feedback, portfolio building, and professional guidance from experienced tutors.

You will need to bring a professional beauty uniform, closed‑toe salon shoes and a beauty kit (details provided at enrolment). You should also bring basic stationery, a folder for your portfolio, and any required learning materials. Hair must be tied back and jewellery removed.

You will be assessed through a combination of practical assessments, observations on real clients, and written or online knowledge tests. You’ll also build a portfolio of evidence, including treatment records and assignments. Assessments are ongoing throughout the year.

After completing this qualification, you can progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Beauty or Media Makeup, or Spa Therapy. You may also move into employment as a junior beauty therapist in salons, spas, nail bars or retail cosmetic settings.
