Course Information for Students

This one-day course aims to prepare participants for the NPTC Certificate of Competence in the Safe Use of Pesticides qualification. The course also includes assessment, to be arranged on a separate day.

All candidates must be over the age of 16 and be physically fit. You must have passed your PA1 Foundation module. 

You should also be proficient in the use and operation of a tractor. 

The course will cover:

  • Development of knowledge and understanding of current legislation
  • Applying pesticides safely with a field crop sprayer fitted with nozzles
  • Identifying and selecting attachments, preparing machinery and calibrating
  • Operating equipment and conforming with current legislation/codes of practice
  • Disposal of unwanted pesticides/containers and cleaning equipment
  • Identifying faults and conditions when spraying is not advisable and may cause harm to oneself/others

Learning will be both theory and practical-based, delivered on-site at Broomfield Hall.

You will be required to supply your own:

  • Steel toe-capped boots/wellingtons
  • Spray suit
  • Rubber gloves approved for pesticide use
  • Writing materials
  • Lunch (there will be facilities available on-site if you wish to purchase your lunch here)

There is a practical assessment, lasting approximately two hours, which is taken on a separate day from the training.
