Who is this course for?
Designing and implementing training programmes is a necessary element within many areas of the animal management industry. Through work-based learning, this module aims to give students the knowledge, transferable skills and necessary experience to develop successful training programmes.
Students will have the opportunity to develop, implement and critically evaluate a training programme based on scientific approaches. There will be an emphasis on the underpinning theories of animal learning and cognitive behaviour. Throughout, students will analyse factors affecting the progress of training programmes and the importance of flexibility and record keeping.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must be 18 years or older.
A minimum of two weeks’ work experience in training animals.
UCAS points in a relevant subject area are required; specific entry criteria can be discussed with the course tutor during the application process.
What will you learn?
This module will introduce key concepts and theories which underpin the techniques used by practitioners when training animals. Students will critically evaluate theories and apply them to their practice. This module will also give students the opportunity to apply sound practice in the design and implementation of their own training programme.
This module will give students the freedom to pursue their individual interests through their choice of species and training outcomes. There is an emphasis on work-based learning, independent thought, good time management and creativity.
