While many of our students go straight into rewarding roles within the industry, a growing number choose to take their ambitions to the next level by studying subjects like sports science at university.
Some have even won scholarships to attend college in the USA.
Others have gone on to scale the heights of their sport, such as international badminton champion Donna Kellogg MBE, who recently returned to Derby College to officially open our new sports facilities.
Sport at Derby College
The new Derby College sports facilities, opened at the Johnson Building on Pride Park following a £250,000 investment, include a sports hall, gymnasium and dance studio.
If you're a talented athlete, you will undoubtedly benefit from our sports academies which enable you to finesse your skills and improve your performance while studying at the College. Sports covered range from basketball to boxing, football to golf and there is even an academy for referees and officials.
As the College is an active member of British Colleges Sport with a fantastic track record in competitions, there are countless opportunities for you to showcase your talents regionally and nationally.
We also have an excellent reputation for encouraging and promoting disabled sport.
On a broader level, you will have the chance to take part in all manner of community activities such as coaching in schools and event stewarding. Our close partnership with Derby County FC, for instance, enables some students to get involved in football in the community initiatives.

My experience at Derby College was brilliant, I learnt a lot in my two years from doing the BTEC National and it helped me develop and grow as a person. The Basketball Academy helped develop me into the player I am today. Derby College was the best choice I made because it opened a lot of doors for me and I came out with a great qualification.
