Floristry industry
Birthdays, weddings, christenings, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day - everyone likes to say it with flowers! That's why the UK's fresh cut flower and indoor plant market is worth over £1.5 billion today – and why you'll find an exciting array of job opportunities in this sector.
In the East Midlands alone, there are around 500 businesses devoted to floristry, employing over 1,000 people. Most are small firms such as independent shops or providers of flower arranging services. Demand for qualified new recruits to the sector is high as a large number of current staff are approaching retirement.
It's also an industry where many people strike out with their own ventures: some 42 per cent of the floristry workforce is self-employed.
