The setting for our vanguard, vocational education provision centred around learning businesses – ensuring line of sight to work and an escalator to higher skills.

Our provision aligns to our regional priority and growth sectors, in particular Derby is the leading city in the UK for transport, manufacturing and engineering, providing opportunities for our young people to live, work and prosper. The Roundhouse houses our Engineering Academy, a state-of-the-art facility that equips learners with the skills required across a variety of engineering disciplines to meet the needs of our large employers and their supply chains.


The campus also includes the Hudson and Johnson Buildings.

Home to our Construction Academy, responding to one of the largest sectors in the UK. The Academy supports the demand for trained and qualified construction professionals and the built environment crafts.


The Johnson Building

Provides superb facilities for learners wishing to pursue a career in the motor vehicle and sports sectors and also acts as a hub for much of our partnership work with employers.

Employment World

Working in partnership with local employers to address the challenges of our unemployed community, Employment World is co-located with Jobcentre Plus in the heart of Derby city centre. It is the central hub for our national Careers Service advice and guidance provision and the focus for our employer-led sector-based work
academies.

Provides excellent self-learning or tutor-led computer training, enhancing individuals' career and personal prospects through a full range of flexibly delivered IT qualifications.


The St James Centre

The St James Centre is based in the heart of the community and strives to meet the needs of a diverse range of adults from both new and existing communities. Provision is delivered at all levels from pre-entry to Level 2.

A variety of other community venues are utilised for our Prince's Trust programmes throughout Derby and Derbyshire and our adult maths and English provision.

The Derby College Education Trust

Merrill Academy


The Merrill Academy serves around 1,000 learners aged between 11 and 19 in the Allenton and Alvaston communities in Derby city. The provision in the Academy is enhanced to support young people to prepare for the world of work and contribute to social action.

Derby College will be a key strategic partner of the Derby Manufacturing University Technical College (UTC) set to open in Derby in 2015 and sponsored by the University of Derby and a number of key manufacturing and engineering employers led by Rolls-Royce plc.
