The World of Work

Work Placements

Work Experience is essential to give students the chance to gain a hands-on understanding of the world of work, gain valuable skills and knowledge and give them an insight to their chosen career path to help make a smooth transitions from education to employment.

At Derby College, work experience is a mandatory part of all full time study programmes across all vocational and academic courses.

Work experience is made up of:
  • Work Placements
  • Special talks from employers
  • Work place visits
  • Employer led projects
  • CV workshops
  • Mock Interviews

Derby College has a dedicated team of Work Experience Officers who will visit classes, provide information on placements and explain the process students have to follow.

Health and Safety assessments are completed with all placement providers and details from their Employers Liability Insurance are obtained before any student can start.

As a college, we work with over 3000 employers around the East Midlands and have forged strong relationships with many through our Employment and Skills Academies and Employer Academies.
