Derby Student Kelly Wins National Golf Title

Derby College student, Olivia Kelly (Erewash Valley Golf Club) added the 2015 Inter Collegiate Tour (ICT) Players Championship title to her growing list of victories.

Academy Launched to Train Budding Chefs

Derby College has expanded its innovative Employer Academy programme to address the growing demand for skilled chefs. The College has teamed up with The Finesse Collection to launch the Professional Cookery Academy this September.
Business students at Derby College will be working with the UK’s leading designers of triathlon wetsuits, apparel and accessories thanks to a new partnership initiative. Students enrolling on the BTEC level three Business course at the College this September will have the chance to join the new Huub Marketing and Product Development Academy.

Horticulture students at Derby College’s Broomfield Hall campus have designed and created the outline of a Remembrance and Hope Garden being built at St John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy in Kirk Hallam

The students have designed the three-part garden which will now be completed by pupils at the school ahead of the official unveiling and mass there on July 10 as part of the school’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

Level 2 and 3 Floristry students took part in the Derbyshire County Show. They were given 2 stands; each 10ft x 10ft with the themes created by the students.

At the British College’s Sport (BCS) gala dinner at St George’s Park, Derby College having won the East Midlands regional title were awarded Runner Up in the National category out of 248 other colleges.

A team of Derby College Extended Diploma in Horse Management students, based at Broomfield Hall in Morley, have won the Inter-College Equine competition hosted by Brooksby Melton College.

The team of eight, supported by fellow students, competed against teams from six other Midlands’ colleges in the annual competition.

Jessica Peggs is on an Apprenticeship at Derby College Dog Grooming Salon. Jess was one of the youngest people to ever successfully complete her Salon Details IPG (International Professional Groomers) exam.

Ploughing Match Success

Level 3 Agriculture student, Ashley Slater won the 1st prize in vintage ploughing and 1st prize for best kept tractor and plough at Brailsford Ploughing Match.

Derby College has teamed up with Derby-based epm:technology to boost the number of young people entering the workplace with skills in advanced composites manufacturing. Applications are now being taken for the epm:technology Advanced Composites Academy which will start in September. An open day for potential learners to find out more will be held at the Roundhouse on Tuesday July 14 between 3pm and 7pm.

Students at Derby College's training kitchen and restaurant hosted more than 60 guests for the pre-dinner for the Jenson Button Trust Triathlon on Saturday night.

Guests included top chef Gordon Ramsay and F1 driver Jenson Button who were guests of honour at the dinner to celebrate the prestigious event being held in Derby for the first time on Sunday July 12.

Females into Engineering at Derby College

With a national shortage of engineers, an under-represented female workforce, and following the success of our Females into Engineering event at our Roundhouse campus, Derby College will be hosting further Females into Engineering events to promote the range of career opportunities within the engineering sector.
