Derby College Chosen For Targeted Careers Training

Derby College has been chosen as one of 12 further education providers in the UK to be part of an innovative careers advice and guidance programme.

Two Derby College Services for Students team members will be specially trained under the Association of College’s targeted programme which is backed by Government funding through the national Careers & Education Company (CEC).

Derby College Students Learn How to Save a Life

Derby College students have been taught how to save a life as part of National Restart a Heart Day.

Teaching staff at Derby College Group will be welcomed as members of the Society for Education and Training (SET) thanks to a new corporate partnership.

Derby College Expands Peer Mentor Programme

Derby College is expanding its peer mentor programme after a successful pilot to train students to support others facing lower levels of mental health issues.

Six students, based at the Broomfield Hall Land-based and Leisure College in Morley, have so far been trained to provide support to their peers.

Higher Education students at Derby College came under the spotlight at an awards ceremony at the Roundhouse to celebrate their success.

As well as certificates for completing their Higher Education study programmes at the College in Animal Management, Children and Young People’s services, Construction Management, Criminal Justice, Coaching and Mentoring, Education, Engineering and Sports Coaching, there were several special awards presented in recognition of students’ personal achievements.

The Animal Unit at Broomfield Hall will be getting visitors into the Halloween mood on Sunday October 28 with the chance to get up close and personal with some of the creepy crawlies who are looked after by students there.

The open day between 10am and 4pm will have a wide range of family activities.

Strong success rates, high levels of competence and a deep understanding of its business needs have made Derby College the training provider of choice for SENAD Group.

The SENAD Group, whose head office is based in Derby, runs specialist schools for children and young people with special educational and/or care needs, as well as community support, transition services and homes for adults.

Derby College Training Supports Charity Growth Plans

A Derbyshire group which supports younger people before, during and after stoma surgery is now planning to expand its reach thanks to counselling training from Derby College.

FISHYS, which stands for Friendship, Information, Support and Help for Young Stomates, is the only group of its kind in the UK supporting younger people who have undergone or are facing stoma surgery.

The Leicestershire manufacturing plant of Caterpillar's Building Construction Products Division in Desford has re-launched its pioneering apprenticeship programme with Derby College.

The programme will offer up to 140 young people per year for the next three years with the opportunity to kick-start their future careers.

Land based and Leisure Higher Education Open Day

Derby College is holding an open day for students of all ages who are interested in boosting their job prospects in land-based and leisure careers.

The event at Broomfield Hall in Morley is on Wednesday October 17. Visitors need to arrive by 9am and the open day is due to finish by 5pm.

Broomfield Hall Gardens Open Day

Visitors to Derby College’s Broomfield Hall on Sunday September 23 will have the chance to tour the Victorian gardens that inspired local volunteers to clinch a Silver medal at this summer RHS Chatsworth Flower Show.

The gardens, including the long border which created the blueprint for the award-winning show entry, will be open between 10am and 4pm as part of the National Garden Scheme Open Day. Entry is £3 for adults and free for under 16-year-olds.
