Nick Knowles Visits Hodgkinson Brickwork Academy at Derby College

Television star Nick Knowles has visited Construction learnerss at the Hodgkinson Brickwork Academy at Derby College's Ilkeston campus to thank them for their involvement in the recent BBC DIY SOS Big Build project.

Derby College has teamed up with Microsoft’s UK Country Partner of The Year 2015, risual Limited, to open the East Midlands’ first risual Microsoft Academy. This will offer Microsoft qualifications for learners across the College, IT apprentices and employees at businesses across the region.

A former female Motor Vehicle learner has returned to Derby College to train the teachers who previously taught her in the latest automotive industry education software technology. Catherine Treanor from Duffield studied at Derby College as part of her Motor Vehicle apprenticeship at Station Garage in Belper.

Post Office revamp brings first class apprentice opportunities

A major post office makeover could lead to a first class career for two Derby College apprentices.

Raj Mohan, 41, subpostmaster at Kirk Hallam in Derbyshire, is joining forces with the College as he gets set to take on further responsibility for the post office across the border in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire.

 

Derby College Student Supported By the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust

A Derby College Music Technology student is due to feature on a BBC Lifeline television programme next week (Sunday November 8) – highlighting the support he has gained from the charity, the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust.

Curtis May (18) from Swadlincote joined the Trust’s Get on Track programme two years ago to help him overcome the challenges that he faced at school and home.

Ten academies aimed at producing work-ready youngsters and addressing skills shortages in key industries in Derby have been launched.

The Employer Academies have been set up by Derby College in partnership with several employers.

The new academy is set to open at the College's Joseph Wright Campus in Derby city centre on Tuesday November 3.

Derby College has expanded its Employer Academy programme by teaming up with a Derby web and software development company to boost IT students' skills.

iBox Security in Derby's Cathedral Quarter specialises in website and software development for a wide range of industry sectors and currently employs 11 people.

A counter terrorism video, produced by police and students at Derby College which highlights the dangers of young people of becoming radicalised, has been given Home Office approval to be made available to schools throughout the UK.

Derby College’s work to improve the employability of local people through its extensive range of Higher Education programmes has been praised by inspectors from the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) whose report was published on Wednesday August 12.

Derby College Celebrate Five Year High in A level Results

Derby College is celebrating its highest grade percentage in five years with a 98% pass rate overall and the majority of A2 subjects recording a 100% pass rate including Humanities and Modern Foreign Language subjects.
