A Derby College Construction Apprentice is laying the foundations for a successful career in the building industry.

Jordan Richards from Ilkeston, works at Derby-based firm G F Tomlinson and is celebrating after scooping a prestigious industry award. He was awarded a regional Guild of Bricklayers award.

Former Derby College Electrical learner Mitchell Shore has been named Apprentice of the Year for 2016 by national training provider JTL. Mitchell, who is 22 and from Chaddesden, fought off competition from more than 6000 apprentices across the UK to take the title at an awards ceremony at London's Drapers' Hall, attended by 150 people.

Derby College is holding two special events as part of National Apprenticeship Week 2016 which are designed to support young people into apprenticeships and the world of work.

Derby College has launched the risual Autodesk Academy at the Roundhouse to upskill teachers and learners in the latest Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology software.

A former Derby College Construction apprentice has won a place in Squad UK for WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017. Zack Lysaczenko is now in with the chance of representing the UK construction industry on the world stage after excelling in the finals of the WorldSkills UK skills competitions in Birmingham. 

Maddie Kirkman is doing on-the-job training at GF Tomlinson of Little Eaton, as well as completing a two-year Level 3 Advanced BTEC Diploma in Professional Construction at Derby College. Maddie is helping to fly the flag for women in the construction industry.

A Derby College plumbing apprentice has qualified for a prestigious national apprenticeship competition.Tom Smith is a Plumbing apprentice with Derby Homes and is studying his Level two qualifications at Derby College's Roundhouse campus. He will take part in one of six regional heats in February 2016 at Stephenson College in Coalville for a place in the national finals of the UK Heating Apprentice of the Year competition which will be held in April. T The competition is organised every year by HIP Magazine with the winner receiving a £5,000 prize.

 A former Construction apprentice at Derby College will take part in a national skills competition next week with his sights set on qualifying for the UK team.

Zack Lysaczenko from Chellaston won a place in the three-day UK Skillbuild final at Birmingham’s NEC National Skills Show (Thursday November 19 to 21) after representing Derby College in the regional competition earlier this year.

A former female Motor Vehicle learner has returned to Derby College to train the teachers who previously taught her in the latest automotive industry education software technology. Catherine Treanor from Duffield studied at Derby College as part of her Motor Vehicle apprenticeship at Station Garage in Belper.
