Politics students at Derby College Group’s Joseph Wright post-16 Academic and Arts college recently spent the day at the House of Commons as part of a Parliament Education Service programme.

After touring Parliament, the Government & Politics students joined a session about voting and representing before going into the public gallery to watch politicians debating key issues.

Politics lecturer Ross Holmes said: “Visits such as this are vital to bring to life the classroom-based theory about the structure and role of Government.

“We were particularly fortunate that the visit coincided with the frenetic activity and voting around the Grieve amendment so the atmosphere and debate was particularly charged and exciting to watch.”
