More than 200 Derby College students at Broomfield Hall attended an event designed to highlight the dangers of driving.

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service set up a simulated car crash caused by a driver texting behind the wheel.

Derby College Media Make-up students created realistic injuries on the casualties who were played by Public Services students.

Fire crews demonstrated how they release casualties from vehicles whilst the scenario and consequences were explained to the students.

Head of Broomfield Hall Eileen Swan said: “Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service’s 'Dying to Drive' demonstration was aimed at both young drivers and passengers to highlight the paramount importance of road safety and the consequences of actions.

“It was an extremely powerful presentation which I’m sure will resonate with our students as well as those on the Public Services study programme who have their sights set on a career in the uniformed services such as the Fire Service.”
