If you live more than 15 miles from college on a difficult transport route, you might be interested in the high-quality, Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’ accommodation facilities we have available on our Broomfield Hall campus.

Accommodation is available from Monday – Friday, term time only and comprises fully-furnished single study bedrooms in hostels of ten rooms – five to a floor.

Each hostel has a kitchen/lounge area, each floor has toilets and bath/shower rooms, and each bedroom has a vanity unit. Free wi-fi is available and there are a number of laptops available for loan too.

Residential Wardens are on duty in the evening and overnight for support, with the Residential & Welfare Manager being the named contact for residential issues in the day.

You are required to provide your own bed linen, pillows and kitchen utensils.

For under 18 students, accommodation is provided from 5pm Sunday evening through to 6pm on Friday evening; weekend accommodation can be arranged on payment of additional fees for over 18 students ONLY by prior arrangement with our Residential & Welfare Manager.

Meals and recreation

You will take your meals in the main cafeteria. An £11 per day meal allowance – allowing for three meals plus snacks – is included in the accommodation cost.

Recreational facilities are available in the Students’ Union, with sports facilities such as the gym and climbing wall open at given times and/or by arrangement. Off-campus visits to the supermarket, bowling alley, roller skating rink, trampolining park etc are also arranged on a regular basis.

Fees and financial help

Accommodation fees for 2018/19 are £4,500 for an under 18 student for the whole academic year, including the £11 per day meal allowance. Over 18 students wishing to stay for weekends will be given a quote on application based on the length of their course. A £200 damage deposit is required to secure the room.

If your annual disposable household income is below £25,000, you may be eligible for a Residential Bursary.

Full details of the support and a breakdown of payments will be provided after we have received your bursary application. You may also be entitled to further help from the Discretionary Learner Support Fund.

How to apply

Applications can be made once you have received an official letter from Derby College offering you a place on a course.

Please note that our accommodation is only for those learners who can live independently as we have no provision for individuals who require supported living, specialist medical or nursing care.

Priority is given to students on land-based and other specialist study programmes – such as Golf Academy courses – and we take into consideration travel-to-College times.
