High Level Skills STEM & SAIL

Derby College Group (DCG) and partners across the region have been awarded funding from the European Social Fund across two projects to benefit employees of local small and medium sized businesses within the Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire (D2N2) area.

The project is delivered by a consortium of higher education, further education and third sector organisations. Led by Nottingham Trent University (NTU), the consortium also includes Derby College Group, University of Derby, Nottingham College, East Midlands Chamber of Commerce, Inspire Culture and Learning, and the Workers’ Educational Association.

The programme involves two complementary projects that focus on the development of skills within leadership and management and STEM:

  • Smart and Inclusive Leadership (SAIL)
  • Branch out in STEM

Smart and Inclusive Leadership (SAIL)

The Smart and Inclusive Leadership (SAIL) project aims to provide local SMEs and their employees with the leadership and management skills gaps that they are missing within their business. SAIL provides SME staff the opportunities for training to develop into future leaders, boosting the development of their growth, productivity, and competitiveness.

Branch out in STEM

The Branch out in STEM project supports both employees and local SMES who work within the science, technology, engineering and maths industries to develop and enhance their leadership and management skills to become more efficient and productive within their competitive industry in priority areas.
