What is DANCOP?

DANCOP is a collaborative network between universities and colleges across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire that exists to provide targeted higher education outreach programmes to secondary schools and colleges across the two counties. We are proud to be a part of the National Collaborative Outreach Programme and our work focuses on specific target wards where we have the opportunity to inspire and inform about higher education and the opportunities it brings.

What is our Aim?

  • We work on a one to one and group basis with identified students to raise their awareness of progression opportunities, engaging and inspiring them to progress into Higher Level study
  • Assisting students with Higher Education research and supporting with the HE application process
  • Working with parents, guardians, carers and community organisations to raise aspirations and provide information and advice about further and higher level study
  • Using e a range of careers guidance tools to support students career planning
  • Prepare a range of materials and plan and deliver workshops on topics such as student finance, decision making and the application process
  • We also promote the benefits of the Widening Participation agenda to students and staff

Who are we?

Taj Hundal - In-reach Aim Higher Project Officer

I work with students that are currently studying at Derby College, with the aim to encourage and support them into higher level study. I will be on hand as a resource for either one to one advice as well as providing support in group sessions and activities. Some of the sessions that will be available are based around the concept of Higher Education, looking at the variety of courses available, supporting with Student Finance issues as well as looking at the most suitable route for each individual.
