Who is this course for?
This is an introductory course to help you understand children’s settings, care and development. It is suitable for you if you want to start training for a caring role with children. It is also ideal if you are unsure about your future career and want to find out more about the care sector.
Entry Requirements
All applicants are assessed on an individual basis and an interview is essential.
An example grade profile would include:
- A minimum of grade 1 in English Language and Maths
- A range of other grade 1 GCSEs
You will also need evidence of good attendance, punctuality, self-motivation and a positive attitude to study.
What will you learn?
Topics include:
- Introduction to the role of the practitioner
- Children’s development
- Communication
- Work experience and wider learning
To support your main study programme, future progression and life skills, you will also study and develop your maths and English skills.
How will you learn?
This course will be delivered on-site.
What will you need to bring with you?
You need a pen, paper and small folder for your own notes.
How will you be assessed?
You will have formative assessments to check your learning in the form of:
- Booklets
- Display boards
- Posters
- Group and independent work
Where next?
Successful completion of the course can enable you to progress to the Level 1 Caring for Children course.
