Pre Level 1 Introduction to Working with Children – DCG Certificate – September 2023 start

This is an introductory course to help you understand children’s settings, care and development. It is suitable for you if you want to start training for a caring role with children. It is also ideal if you are unsure about your future career and want to find out more about the care sector.  

All applicants are assessed on an individual basis and an interview is essential. 

An example grade profile would include:

• A minimum of grade 1 in English Language and Maths
• A range of other grade 1 GCSEs

You will also need evidence of good attendance, punctuality, self-motivation and a positive attitude to study.

Topics include:

• Introduction to the role of the practitioner
• Children’s development
• Communication
• Work experience and wider learning

To support your main study programme, future progression and life skills, you will also study and develop your maths and English skills.

This course will be delivered on-site.

You need a pen, paper and small folder for your own notes. 

You will have formative assessments to check your learning in the form of:

• Booklets
• Display boards
• Posters
• Group and independent work

Successful completion of the course can enable you to progress to the Level 1 Caring for Children course.
