Who is this course for?
This is a professional qualification for students wanting a career in the beauty therapy industry. You will be working towards the City & Guilds Diploma in Beauty Therapy – which could be your first step towards a role as a junior beauty therapist within a salon or a health spa.
You need to be highly motivated and demonstrate a keen interest in your chosen subject. Offers of a place on the course are dependent on your qualifications and practical aptitude. You will need:
- Grade 4 GCSE in English
- Grade 4 GCSE in Maths
You will have an interview and initial assessment in maths and English and will attend a taster session. Parents and carers are welcome to attend the interview but not the initial assessment. If you are successful, you will be allocated a place to study after attending a taster event.
What will you learn?
Mandatory units are:

- Promote additional services or products to clients
- Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
- Provide facial skin care treatment
- Enhance the appearance of eyebrows and lashes
- Carry out waxing services
- Provide manicure services
- Provide pedicure services
- Make up
- Underpinning knowledge
- Science and anatomy
How will you learn?
This course will be delivered on-site and will involve a mix of practical and theory lessons.
What will you need to bring with you?
A kit and uniform are required for the programme. Details will be available from the curriculum staff during your interview
How will you be assessed?
You will be assessed by a range of methods including practical observation, written tests, assignments and preparing a portfolio of evidence.
You can progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy or you might like to think about the Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy.
You can pursue a career in a wide range of roles in beauty salons and spas.
