LEVEL 2 BARBERING PROFESSIONAL APPRENTICESHIP
This apprenticeship is a starting point for any person wanting to become a barber. You will be working in a salon and attend College on a Monday for theory and practical learning, plus maths and English studies.

Who is this course for?
This apprenticeship is a starting point for any person wanting to become a barber.
You will work full time in a salon, with paid time to attend College – at the moment, this is on a Monday.
Entry Requirements
You need GCSEs graded 3-5 and should want to pursue a career in hairdressing.
You should be hard working and have excellent time management and interpersonal skills.
What will you learn?
You will learn the basics of being a hairdresser.
Examples of the units you will study are below but this will be discussed with your assessor. If you are not exempt, you will also complete Functional Maths and English. There are exams for every unit which you must pass before moving on to the next unit.
• Shampooing, blow drying, plaiting and twisting
• Cutting and styling hair
• Greeting customers and running the salon reception
• Advising customers on hairstyles and colours that would suit them
• Cutting facial hair
• Health and safety
How will you learn?
You will learn both in College and in the workplace.
There are practical sessions with embedded theory.
What will you need to bring with you?
You need a barbering kit which will be explained to you at the start of the programme.
You also need a black uniform – including black top, trousers or a skirt.

Is there any financial support available?
There are no costs to the apprentice but there is a 5% cost to the employer.

Apprenticeship summary
The Level 2 Barbering Apprenticeship involves one day a week at College plus training and support provided by the employer in the workplace. The apprenticeship covers a range of duties such as:
- Shampooing, blow drying, plaiting and twisting
- Cutting and styling hair
- Greeting customers and running the salon reception
- Advising customers on hairstyles and colours that would suit them
- Cutting facial hair
- Health and safety
Are they any entry requirements for my apprentice?
They will need GCSEs graded 3-5, should be working in a salon and keen to pursue a career in barbering, and should be hard working with excellent time management and interpersonal skills.
What is required from the employer in the workplace?
- Training and support – 20% off-the-job training
- Paid time to attend College
- Communication with the assessor regarding the apprentice
- Reviews completed and signed in a timely fashion

The apprentice should be keen to pursue hairdressing as a career and should have excellent:
- interpersonal skills
- timekeeping
- customer care
