Course Information for Students
Who is this course for?
Start your creative fashion journey with our Learn to Knit course. It is aimed at those who would like to knit and are complete beginners.
You will find out about slow fashion and timeless, thoughtful, modern designs. As Coco Channel said: “Fashion changes, but style endures.”
As you are supported to learn the traditional craft of knitting, you will find out about different types of wool and which ones are better for different projects. You will be able to make items for yourself or your family.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements. All basic materials for the course are provided. We provide needles and wool to start you off.
What will you learn?
You will learn how to cast on and cast off. You will find out how to create knit and purl stitches. In addition, you will learn to master increasing and decreasing so that you can make a cardigan.
How will you learn?
The course entails practical sessions, with demonstrations and support while you pick up these traditional skills.
What will you need to bring with you?
No previous knowledge of knitting, wool or techniques is required.
How will you be assessed?
There is no formal assessment; however, you will work towards targets connected with knitting techniques.

You could:
- Learn regional traditional knitting techniques such as cabling
- Learn to crochet
- Choose an Adult Art and Design course, a Fashion course or a Sustainability course
