Who is this course for?
You’ll gain a range of skills, techniques and personal attributes essential for a successful career in health and social care. The course offers a placement and the opportunity to develop work-related skills in a health or care environment.
Entry Requirements
Four GCSEs at grade D or above – to include English (grade 3 or above) – will be accepted.
An interview is essential before you can enrol. You will also need evidence of identity for the Criminal Records Bureau (DBS) check. A clear DBS is required for your placement. A good record of attendance is also required and evidence of this must be provided.

- Individual Rights in Health and Social Care
- Individual Needs in Health and Social Care
- Ensuring Safe Environments in Health and Social Care
- Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care
- Human Lifespan Development
- Functional Skills in English and Maths
You will develop your skills in maths and English to support your main programme of study, help with your future progression and enhance your life skills.
How will you learn?
This course will be delivered on-site.
What will you need to bring with you?
You need practical smart clothing and shoes for attendance at your placement. You will also have to cover the travel costs to reach your placement.
How will you be assessed?
Assessment is through a range of assignment and placement tasks PLUS EXAMS scheduled over the year. These will include written assessments, presentations, displays and practical tasks. An overall grade is given at the end of the year. Functional Skills will be assessed by portfolio and online assessments.

Further study
If you gain an overall grade of Merit or Distinction on this Health and Social Care course and pass Functional Skills in English at Level 2, you may be able to progress to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care – subject to interview and good attendance.
