Course Information for Students

This is an introductory course helping you learn how to groom your own dog safely and correctly at home. You will leave with the knowledge of how to groom your own dog – using the correct equipment and basic grooming skills.

You must be 19+ and have a keen interest in canine health and welfare. 

  • You must provide your own small to medium-sized dog for the course. (No handstripping breeds)
  • The dog must be well behaved for training.
  • The dog cannot be matted.
  • Ideally there should be around six to eight weeks’ coat growth, to be enough to trim.
  • Dogs must be up to date with vaccinations. (Proof of this must be shown on the day of the course.)

Students will develop a range of knowledge on how to groom their own dog safely and effectively at home. We will cover:

  • Grooming equipment
  • Bathing and drying
  • Nails and ear cleaning
  • Basic clipping of the dog (one length all off)
  • Trimming eyes, feet and ears
  • Essential health checks

The course entails a practical session at the Dog Grooming Unit at Broomfield Hall 

There are no additional costs or specialist equipment required. The items we ask you to provide on the day are:

  • Sensible clothing (trousers/long-sleeved top)
  • Closed toe shoes
  • Notepad (in case you would like to make notes)
  • Food and refreshments for yourself

*All other equipment needed will be provided during the course.*

There are no assessments within this course.
