This Entry Level Three course is designed for those wishing to start their journey in light vehicle maintenance and repair with a view to embarking on a potential career in the motor industry. It is designed for school and college leavers who wish to take their first steps with a practical Motor Vehicle qualification but who still need to improve their English and maths.

Who is this course for?
This Entry Level Three course is designed for those wishing to start their journey in light vehicle maintenance and repair with a view to embarking on a potential career in the motor industry. It is designed for school and college leavers who wish to take their first steps with a practical Motor Vehicle qualification but who still need to improve their English and maths.
Alongside the Motor Vehicle qualification, learners will work towards achieving their Functional Skills in Maths and English, as well as learning about the behaviours and skills sets required to progress within the motor industry and to support and enhance their life skills.
Entry Requirements
You must have a passion for motor vehicles and an interest in mechanical components. You shoud also be willing to develop yourself futher and learn new skills.
An initial assessment will support your learning journey and will allow us to target areas for your development.
What will you learn?
You will study:
- Health and safety awareness
- Motor vehicle tools and equipment
- Remove and replace a vehicle road wheel
- Check and maintain car tyre pressures and tread
- Routine braking system checks
- Check and maintain vehicle fluid levels
- Principles of engine components and operations
- Introduction to vehicle exhaust systems
- Routine light vehicle checks
- Introduction to customer care
- English (Functional Skills)
- Maths (Functional Skills)
- A minimum of five days’ work experience in a motor vehicle environment
How will you learn?
This course will be delivered on-site.
What will you need to bring with you?
You must provide your own steel toe-capped boots to be worn at all times in the workshops. A £40 fee will be required for College overalls, sweatshirts and T-shirts.
How will you be assessed?
Practical activities are assessed in our centre using externally set criteria. Maths and English will be assessed through a final exam for Functional Skills.
Where next?
Students who complete this qualification and demonstrate the positive behaviours required could progress to our Level 1 programme in Motor Vehicle studies.
