Course Information for Students

The course is aimed at anyone who wants to learn and have a greater understanding of both the theory and practical aspects of canine first aid.

It is ideal for dog owners, dog walkers, kennel assistants and dog groomers. 

There are no formal entry requirements. 

You should have a genuine interest in dogs and should be keen to establish an understanding of canine first aid. Opportunity will be provided for you to practise certain procedures. 

This course covers information from the Introductory Canine First Aid course as well as signs of health, restraint techniques and a wider range of first aid situations. It includes:

  • Normal and abnormal signs of health in dogs
  • Restraint methods: correct use and application of equipment
  • First aid – what is it and what is involved, including scene assessment and barrier use
  • Normal values of temperature, pulse and respiration (theory and practical)
  • First aid situations

In the session you will learn theory, watch videos and undertake practical learning, all delivered on-site. This includes: 

  • Scene assessment
  • CPR
  • TPR
  • Bandaging

You will be required to supply your own:

  • Sensible closed-toe flat footwear
  • Sensible clothing
  • Writing materials
  • Refreshments

There is no formal assessment. Assessment is by observation of your practical performance throughout the day.
