The Level 2 Diploma in Sports Performance (Basketball) study programme is designed for students who regularly participate in basketball and wish to combine their studies with regular training and competition in this sport.

Students applying internally need to evidence high levels of attendance and to be motivated to achieve their English and Maths qualifications.
Entry Requirements
You will need to complete an interview and show a desire to achieve both the Maths and English GCSEs as this will form a larger proportion of your study. The entry requirements for this course are that the majority of your GCSEs should be graded at 3, with English Language or Maths at 2 or 3.
The study programme will focus on the achievement of English and Maths GCSEs. You are expected to maintain high standards of discipline, punctuality and attendance. It is essential that you work to the deadlines set or you risk the chance of not achieving your programme of study or not being selected for competitive basketball fixtures.
Practical sessions are compulsory, so you must be physically able to take part in both indoor and outdoor sessions. You will also be expected to undertake work experience which may involve weekend activity or involvement in AoC officiating at regional or national competitons.

The course is made up of a number of units and topics which can include:

It also includes a tutorial session to monitor your progress, set targets, support your main programme of study, help your future progression and enhance your life skills. The completion of your GCSEs will enable you to apply for higher level courses.
You need to be aware that basketball events can take place at weekends, evenings or early mornings and you will be expected to attend these.
How will you learn?
This course will be delivered on-site at Broomfield Hall.
There are practical sessions in which you will be expected to take part and others that you are expected to lead.
We encourage learners to bring their own laptop to aid their studies.
What will you need to bring with you?
You will need to have a uniform that is worn every day and when you are on work experience. The minimum expectation for the uniform is that you wear a plain black T-shirt or polo shirt and sweatshirt etc. DCG-branded uniform packs can be purchased for around £50.
You will need to bring suitable footwear and kit for the activities set throughout the year.
All learners are advised to have a tablet or laptop to aid them with their studies.
There may be additional costs incurred for selected trips, visits or academy kit.
How will you be assessed?
You will build a portfolio based around evidence generated by the various assessment methods in each unit. You are expected to work on multiple assessments at any one time. You will be assessed through practical demonstrations, logbooks and performance records, written reports and essays, presentations, workbooks, discussions and vivas.
Maths and English will be assessed through a final exam.
Your availability for competitive fixtures will be at risk if you do not keep up to date with your work or maintain high attendance levels. You will be expected to maintain an attendance of over 95% throughout the year.
