Course Information for Students

This course is designed for somebody wanting to change their career and  gain the basic skills to enter the plumbing industry. It will give you the basic underpinning knowledge which a Level 2 apprentice would complete at College. All theory elements will be self study over the year, enabling a fast track to employability.

Note – you will not become a qualified plumber after this course. You will need to obtain a job with a plumbing company and complete an on-site NVQ portfolio to be industry recognised. The course is designed to move you towards this goal, ensuring you gain the employability skills employers require.

As this course is very intensive, a personal interview will be completed along with an entry assessment. This covers the basic maths and English requirements which the plumbing industry needs. It will also ascertain if this is the correct career path for you as an individual.

The course covers practical pipework skills in plastics and rigid pipe materials, copper and steel. You will be given training and assessment – from simple jobs to installing a bathroom suite. Maintenance and fault finding are also covered.

Theory elements covered via self study include:

  • Health and Safety
  • Cold Water
  • Hot Water
  • Central Heating
  • Sanitation and Rainwater
  • Environmental Awareness
  • Communications
  • Site Preparations
  • Scientific Principles

This course will be delivered on-site.

Candidates will be required to purchase boots and overalls for the workshop activity.

A course book will be provided.

Assessment for theory is by online assessments.

Practical skills will be assessed by your trainer via a practical assessment portfolio.

A full day-time week at the end of the course will be needed for the final assessment piece.

This course is designed for you to be able to complete all the College elements of becoming a plumber. You will then need to obtain employment in the industry and sign up for an NVQ in Plumbing at Level 2. (Further charges apply.)
