Course Information for Students

This evening course is ideal if you’d like to perfect your hairdressing skills to work effectively as a senior stylist. You will study advanced hair cutting, styling and colouring techniques. 

Working with our highly motivated staff in fantastic facilities and using the latest products, you will also develop your communication and customer service skills to support your success in a vibrant industry.

As part of your studies, you will be required to complete work experience to support the development of your skills and behaviours to meet industry standards.

You need to be highly motivated and demonstrate a keen interest in your chosen subject. Offers of a place on the course are dependent on your qualifications and practical aptitude. You will need:

  • English GCSE (grade 4 or above)
  • An Intermediate Diploma/Level 2 in Hairdressing subject to a Merit or Distinction standard

You will have an interview and initial assessment  We may be able to take into consideration your previous experience in your chosen subject.

*Please note that if you are aged 19-23 and will be studying your first Level 3 course, the course may be free depending on your personal circumstances. Please contact Student Services for more information.

If you are 19 or over and studying a second Level 2 course, you may be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the costs.


You will study health and safety, consultation, cutting, styling and dressing hair, colouring hair, colour correction and creative hairdressing design skills while working in our training and commercial salons.

You will learn on-site. 

There is a kit and uniform to purchase.  Full details will be given at your interview.

You will be assessed by a range of methods, including practical observation and written tests.

Further study

The teaching staff will advise you on the wide range of opportunities available. These include progression to the Level 4 programme. If taking your knowledge further on a College course, you will continue to develop your skills in maths and English.


You can progress your career in salons, in technician roles or in self-employment.
