Who is this course for?
This course is ideal for learners who are wanting to begin a journey into the dog grooming industry. It will build the skills and knowledge in dog grooming needed to work under supervision in a dog grooming salon. The course is run within a commercial salon at the College, allowing a more realistic insight into dog grooming careers.
It is mostly a practical course but there is some theory throughout.
Entry Requirements
You must have a keen interest in dog grooming and a willingness to work hard on the course. An initial interview will be required to assess whether you have the devotion to succeed in a dog grooming career and whether you would be capable of completing the course.
Entry requirements include:
- Four GCSEs at grade D/3 or above
- English and Maths equivalent to Functional Skills Level 1
What will you learn?
You will learn a range of skills which include:
- Preparing and grooming dogs prior to bathing
- Bathing and drying dogs ready for styling
- Knowledge of how to maintain a range of salon equipment
- Basics of clipping and scissoring skills
- Maintaining cleanliness and standards in a grooming salon
- Dog first aid
How will you learn?
This course takes place in the Dog Grooming building at Broomfield Hall.
What will you need to bring with you?
You will be required to provide a few items during the course. These are:
- Sensible footwear (closed toe shoes)
- Sensible clothing (jeans/trousers)
- Notepad and pens
- Folder
- Lunch and refreshments (food is available onsite too)
All other equipment that is needed will be provided.
How will you be assessed?
There are both practical and theoretical assessments during this course. The practical exams will be held within the College grooming salon and completed during the course. There is then a final multiple-choice online exam towards the end of the course.
