With a key focus on children's settings, care and development, this course is suitable for you if you want to continue into training for a caring role with children. It is also helpful if you are unsure about your future direction and want to find out about caring work with adults in the health and social care sector too.
All applicants are assessed on an individual basis and an interview is essential. You will need:
A minimum of grade 2 in English Language and Maths
A range of other grade 2 GCSEs
At least two grade 3s in any subject
You will also need evidence of good attendance, punctuality, self-motivation and a positive attitude to study, and will need to provide two references.
Topics and units include:
Awareness of working with others
Children and young people's development
To support your main study programme, future progression and life skills, you will also study and develop your maths and English skills.
How will I be assessed?
You will build a portfolio of your work and will be assessed through a variety of methods including completing booklets, designing posters, creating displays, making resources, and working together as a team.
Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required?
You will need pens, paper and a folder to store your notes and work.
What can I do after this course?
If you attend well, complete your work placement and deliver your work to a high standard (including passing your maths and English), you may be able to progress to the Level 2 Certificate: Introduction to Working with Children.
This course may also help you progress to other non-childcare courses.
The skills and knowledge you gain on the course are transferable and can support you in a wide range of job areas.
