Course Summary

This intermediate level course in Bricklaying will provide you with the practical experience required to develop skills as a bricklayer.

Throughout the course, you will strengthen and broaden your masonry skills and build the confidence to demonstrate your experience and knowledge to a future employer. On completing the qualification, you will have a broad range of skills that will enable you to take on essential duties and extra responsibility as you advance your career in construction.

Entry requirements

Offers of a place on the course are dependent on your qualifications and practical aptitude, and you need GCSE maths and English at grade D or above.

You will have an interview and initial assessment.  If you are successful, you will be allocated a place to study the practical and theoretical elements of bricklaying.  Parents and carers are welcome to attend the interview but not the initial assessment.

Course Content

Practical and theoretical tests will be delivered throughout the programme of study.  Units will cover safe working practices, solid walling, contributing to setting out and several other bricklaying skills.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is via observation of practical work. You may be required to undertake real trade projects on which you will also be assessed. Your Maths and English skills will be assessed through a controlled assessment or final exam.

Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required?

You will need to supply your own safety footwear.  A small charge may be made for other Personal Protective Equipment needed to complete the course.

What can I do after this course?

Further study
You can progress to the Advanced Diploma in Bricklaying as a full-time learner. If you continue your studies, you will develop your literacy and numeracy skills further.
There is the potential to develop your skills further on an apprenticeship or to go into employment in various trowel occupations in the construction industry.
