This course will provide you with the opportunity to gain a broad knowledge and understanding of - and develop skills in - the health and social care sector.
It will deliver a comprehensive and challenging programme of study related to health and social care that is particularly suited to post-16 learners who have the relevant interest and aptitude to progress in the sector. It will broaden and deepen learners’ understanding of careers in health and social care and their attributes.
Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications. However, a good standard of English is essential.
During the course, you will study a range of health and social care related subjects including health and social care services, human lifespan and development, and individual needs in health and social care.
You will also undertake compulsory work experience within a range of care environments, including residential and nursing homes.
There are observations in the workplace, questioning, products of work, witness testimonies and professional discussions. You will be supported by a competent assessor throughout your course.

The BTEC Diploma in Health and Social Care provides the knowledge, skills and understanding for Level 2 learners to progress to other Level 2 vocational qualifications and related competence-based qualifications for the health and social care sector.
They can also advance to Level 3 vocational qualifications, such as the BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Health and Social Care or the BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Children's Play, Learning and Development.
Alternatively learners can choose to apply for employment, working as a health care assistant in a wide variety of health and social settings.
