Course Summary

This course is designed to help learners develop their knowledge and understanding of dementia and the principles of caring for people with the condition. It covers areas such as person-centred care, the influence of positive communication methods and issues relating to the use of medication in dementia care.

Entry requirements

Learners must be aged 16 or over in order to enrol on the course. There are no other specific entry requirements for this qualification.

Course Content

Over three module books, you will cover issues such as:

  • Dementia awareness
  • The person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia 
  • Communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia
  • Understanding equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care 
  • Understanding the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person-centred approach
  • Understanding behaviour in the context of dementia

There is written assessment and feedback from your assessor.

This qualification provides progression to a number of other qualifications including:
