Course Summary


This course provides you with knowledge and skills that are essential for animal care. Combining practical and theory work, it covers husbandry tasks, handling and health checks, with a focus on small animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs and rodents.  

The course is ideal for anyone looking to enter the animal care industry or to improve their skills and knowledge relating to their pets at home. 



 

Entry requirements

You need basic literacy and numeracy skills, plus some knowledge of animal care.

Course Content

You will cover:

  • Animal needs and how to promote animal welfare
  • Preparing and maintaining suitable animal housing
  • Demonstrating the feeding of animals and understanding their diets
  • Understanding animal social groups for animal housing
  • Carrying out husbandry tasks 
  • Ethical responsibilities of keeping animals.

 

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through one-to-one practical assessment with oral questioning.

You will be required to supply your own stationery.
