This is a full-day course which gives a child the opportunity to experience the joys and responsibilities of owning a pony.
The day will comprise:
- Stable tasks
- Two riding sessions
- A Pony Care lesson
- A tack and turnout show
Please disregard the date shown on the 'Book Now' page as there are various dates available. So, prior to enrolling, please email Nicola Lambert (email@example.com) who will be able to give you more information about the programme and help you book. Make sure you leave a contact phone number!
There are no entry requirements.
During the day you will improve your practical stable management and riding ability. You will become a pony’s owner for the day and will be in charge of his/her care.
This will involve fetching him/her in from the field or mucking out, grooming, tack cleaning, skipping out and field management.
You will also be able to participate in a stable management lesson where you will learn further aspects of pony care.
In addition, you will enjoy two riding sessions which will combine riding tuition at the appropriate level and some fun and games. In the afternoon session, you will have the chance to take part in a tack and turnout show and you may well come home with a rosette!
There are no formal assessments on this course.
Ideally, you will need your own riding equipment. This should include an up-to-standard riding hat, riding gloves and suitable riding boots. You can also wear a body protector – this becomes mandatory when/if you are likely to do pole work and jumping.
Advice can be given on this when you email Nicola prior to enrolling and we do have a small amount of equipment which you may borrow.
We run children's Improve your Riding courses and at 14 years old you can take pathways onto our Adult Riding courses.
