Course Summary

If you own a woodland, work in one or simply enjoy woodlands, this course will show you the correct management techniques to use. You'll learn how to correctly and safely fell small diameter trees and the reasons for this.

This course adds more practical knowledge to the content of our Woodland Management course.

Entry requirements

This is mainly a practical course. No formal qualifications are needed.

Course Content

The course will cover:

  • The history of British woodland
  • Basic woodland management plans
  • Practical felling on small coppice
  • Health and safety in woodlands

One hour will be classroom based, followed by practical work on the College estate.
 

How will I be assessed?

There is no formal assessment. However, feedback will be given throughout the day.

Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required?

You will be required to supply your own:


• Steel toe-capped boots/wellingtons
• Overalls
• Writing materials
• Lunch/refreshments
