Course Summary

The purpose of BTEC Higher Nationals in Horticulture is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the horticulture sector and to adapt to a constantly changing world. These qualifications aim to widen access to higher education and enhance the career prospects of those who undertake them.

Entry requirements

Candidates have to be over 18 years of age.

They need to have a Level 2 RHS or equivalent qualification e.g. the Level 2 Diploma in Horticulture (Dist) or Subsidiary Diploma at Level 3 with relevant industry experience.

How will I be assessed?

The course is assessed by continual assessment. Each module studied has on average four assessments. The assessments are a mixture of practical and theoretical projects.

Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required?

You will be required to provide steel toe-capped boots, secateurs and a knife.

What can I do after this course?

This qualification provides a route to employment in professional horticulture by assessing your knowledge of the principles underpinning horticultural practices. It also supports career development for those already working in the profession. In addition, it provides a foundation for further learning or training in the field of horticulture.
